Protecting your rights

If the SAVE Act becomes law, it will create unnecessary obstacles for eligible voters—especially those without original birth certificates, passports, REAL IDs, people who have changed their names, first-time voters, and anyone whose documents don’t meet federal standards. Their votes could be discarded.

If elected, I will:

  • Convene a working group of county clerks, the state Attorney General, tribal election officials, and nonpartisan voting rights organizations to review legal and election policies.

  • Use emergency rulemaking authority to establish clear timelines and appeals processes.

  • Launch a statewide, multilingual public education campaign in partnership with counties, cities, tribal governments, the Veterans Administration, and community organizations.

Currently, in New Mexico, only first-time voters registering by mail must present a physical ID. Our system efficiently verifies identity and eligibility using trusted state records, without requiring extra documents at registration. We must protect this inclusive process.
